About Me
The port of Anacortes has been a passion of mine for many years.
Cruising to Anacortes by boat during my childhood then mooring my boat at Cap Sante Marina since 1987. Driving over 2 hours each weekend to come to the town I loved. I moved my family and business to Anacortes in 2013.
While serving as chair of the Chamber of Commerce in 2017, I was instrumental in securing a partnership with the Northwest Marine Trades (of which I am a member) to bring the Anacortes Boat & Yacht Show to Cap Sante Marina each May, bringing many to our town to help our economy and show case our port.
I have served on the Anacortes Marine Trades for 13 years, getting to know our 72 marine businesses and helping on projects to give back to our community and strengthen our businesses. Recently, assisting to fight the luxury tax on boats that would cost Anacortes income and jobs, as previous luxury taxes have done.

I have also served 10 years on the Port Marina Advisory Committee, helping with advice on projects and policies for the port. Having been a tenant for so many years, I know the marina and its tenants well. I have been there during many terms of commissioners and employees. I have seen what has worked and what has not.
I have been a marine specialist in the insurance industry for 40 years. My connections in business are vast in this industry and will be an asset to help our deep-water port and airport in securing more business to strengthen our position as one of Washington State’s 8 deep-water ports and bring income and jobs to our town.
I believe in a transparent style of government and strongly feel that the community needs to have more input in what we do and how it affects them. I do not want to see our local boaters priced out of their home port; or the port raising port taxes to the property owners.
I have attended many port meetings and retreats and have been frustrated with the spending on projects with little or no outcome. Also, projects that are outside the scope of the port. After walking out of meetings with other constituents that have spoken, they have said to me, “they don’t care” or “they aren’t even listening to us, what a waste of my time”. I plan to hold periodic meetings with the public to hear their concerns and answer questions. Also, I plan to utilize the many intelligent people in our community that do not wish to sit on a board or a committee but would like to help with their knowledge and connections.
I will focus on helping with solutions to replace the north end of Cap Sante Marina as it is past life expectancy and there is no plan or money set aside for its replacement. Being 56% of the port’s income it needs to be sustained. I humbly ask for your vote and will be open to talking to you, the people that own our port.
